Rabbits
Yearly veterinary exams are recommended in all pet rabbits. Spay/neuter surgery is recommended in all pet rabbits at 3-6 months old. A rabbit that has stopped eating is an emergency! Other signs to look out for at home include nasal or ocular discharge, a soiled rear end, and excess salivation.
Rats
Yearly veterinary wellness exams are recommended in all pet rats. Spay/neuter surgery is recommended at an early age, especially if housing opposite sexes together. Common medical problems include malocclusion or overgrowth of the incisors (teeth), skin and mammary tumors, and respiratory disease.
Guinea Pigs
Yearly veterinary exams are recommended in all pet guinea pigs. Spay/neuter surgery is recommended at an early age, especially if housing opposite sexes together. Common medical problems include vitamin C deficiency, dental disease, and bumble foot.
Ferrets
Yearly veterinary exams are recommended in all ferrets. Vaccination against both the Distemper and Rabies Viruses are available and should be discussed with your veterinarian. Signs of hair loss or changes to the hair coat, irritated skin, abdominal distension, diarrhea, vomiting, nasal discharge, or any changes in behavior should be reported to your veterinarian as soon as possible.
